Veteran Works Towards New Career With Help of GI Bill
UMF student and veteran, T.J. Hebert, is working towards becoming a high school health teacher thanks to UMF’s community health education program and the support of the Post 9/11 GI Bill. After serving six years in the U.S. Navy, he put his education on hold until he learned that he qualified for the veteran benefits that could help make higher education possible. Hebert said that working with both UMF and the Veteran’s Administration to enroll at the University using the GI Bill was a seamless process. He is among the approximately 3,000 Mainers who receive education benefits through the Post 9/11 GI Bill, according to a recent Portland Press Herald article.
