Kathryn A. Foster Inaugurated as 14th UMF President
Kathryn A. Foster was officially inaugurated as UMF’s 14th president on Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, to the well wishes of University of Maine System representatives, dignitaries, the academic community, local leaders, alumni, faculty, staff and students. The ceremony was presided over by UMS Chancellor James H. Page, who said Foster has, “established her position as an integral part of UMF,” according to an article in the Sun Journal. During the service, Foster was presented with University artifacts by Laurie Macwhinnie, of the UMF Mantor Library, including a class roster and list from the first class in 1864. Wesley McNair, Maine Poet Laureate, read the poem, “My Town.” The Portland Brass Quintet performed an original composition by Philip Carlsen, UMF professor of music.
